For miles and miles along the Byron Shire coastline, the view alternates between quiet sandy coves, sweeping beaches and rocky peninsulas. During the cooler months, the beaches are often quite deserted except for pods of dolphins and whales en route to their breeding grounds. The overhanging pandanas tree in this picture looks a little like an alien with its strange-looking exposed root formation.
